The Bad Guy

The Sound Of The World’s Tiniest Violin. (video here)

I know it’s all entertainment. I know most of the scandals are at least partially staged, but there’s a part of me that loves watching reports like this. Through every controversy they have been there, firing back and impugning the patriotism and credibility of all those who dare question the president. Through all the reports that the President may not have the best interests of the American people at heart all the time, they remained unmoved and faithful to Bush. They were cheerleaders, attack dogs, verbal Praetorians, enforcers, and propagandists influenced by wrestling shows.

As approval numbers sank, they questioned how reliable the samples were. When Katrina hit, they blamed New Orleans residents for not being prepared. As the civil liberties of all Americans were worn away by legislation, executive orders and chutzpah they justified the whole thing by scolding us with 9/11. Torture? they moved effortlessly between “We don’t torture,” “A little torture is OK,” “Jack Bauer does it and he’s AWESOME!” and “What is this torture you speak of?” It has become all too predictable to listen to Right-Wing radio and watch FOX News. We know the arguments, we know the talking points. What the viewers are craving is a twist. Today we got it.

Real anger? Feigned anger? I don’t care! Watching Laura Ingraham and Rush Limbaugh tell the world about how offended they were was fun as hell.  I hope you thought so, too.
