Dianne Feinstein Resigns (from a Senate subcommitee)

Back in November many Americans slapped each other on the back, happy that we had made some sort of change. Even I was happy. Heck, I was overjoyed. I also knew that, to paraphrase Obi-Wan Kenobi, that they are all politicians and not to be trusted.

So I wasn’t surprised to learn of Dianne Feinstein resigning as chairperson of the Military Construction Appropriations subcommittee. Here’s the story. Feinstein had an egregious conflict of interest because her husband was a major stockholder in military contractors whose work she oversaw.  Also her conflict of interest MAY HAVE extended to issues regarding the Walter Reed scandal. Sure, she did the right thing by stepping down, but she robbed the American public of a chance for a full-blown scandal that I could watch on FOX News. Hell, the whole thing went down so quietly I only learned about this while scouring the news on line today.

It is so easy to just sit back and blame one party for all of America’s ills.  But when you do that you lose sight of the horrible truth that those people who you think are on your side are just as likely to be corrupt as those on the other side.  So I salute all those who shine light on any of our elected officials abusing the public trust.  It needs to be done constantly, because (with a tip of the hat to Jerzy Kosinski) there is always work to be done in the garden.

  1. What an excellent post! ;D

Seriously, I’m really amazed that people have been able to keep this so quite. I hope the Daily Show picks it up!
